Castel San Niccolo
Castel San Niccolo municipal territory lies in the
Valdarno Casentinese region from the north eastern slopes
of the ridge of Pratomagno to the plains of Compaldino.
From the thirteenth century the Castel San Niccolo has
been one of the most fortified fortresses in the region.
It was the fiefdom of the Guidi Counts. In 1359 it became
a part of the Republic of Florence. In 1440 it was the
center of the resistance to the states by the siege
carried out by the troops of Niccolo Piccinino. The
icy waters of Bagni di Cetica are a few kilometers away
from Castel San Niccolo. They are used to treat skin,
liver and spleen diseases.
