Lucignano
Lucignano a fortified town in South Tuscany, one of the most importunate examples of medieval concentric town planning. It has an intricate maze of roads, which lead to the highest point in town where one can find the Palazzo Communale, the Church of San Francesco and the Collegiate. The top of the hill was finally fortified in 1371 with three massive gates Porta S. Guisto, Porta S. Giovanni and Porta Murata which are still to be seen though not in their original pristine glory. A few years later the architect Bartolo Bartoli constructed the Rocca or Cassero Senese. In 1554 the Medici Family was responsible for the building of the Fortress, which in now unfortunately in ruins and also various churches of historical importance.
