Fiesole
Fiesole is a town, which lies above the city of Florence
and offers a breathtaking view of the city below. This
ancient town has an Etruscan past with some remnants
of Etruscan walls still visible. It also has Roman baths,
a Roman theatre, a roman church dating from 1028 and
a Town Hall (Palazzo Communale) built in the fourteenth
century. According to local legend St. Romulus, a disciple
of Saint Peter first preached Christianity in Fiesole.
The ancient cathedral (Abbazia Fiesolana) bears testimony
to the fact that the Christian origins of Fiesole date
back to the time of the persecutions. Many famous bishops
including S. Donatus and Fra Angelico and many famous
churches including the Duomo and S. Domenico belong
to this town.
