Lucca
The province of Lucca is one of the ten provinces in
the Tuscan region. The Ligurians, the Etruscans and
the Romans have occupied it. There are thirty-five communes
in the province. Lucca is the capital city of the province.
It is the only Italian town, which is entirely surrounded
by well-preserved sixteenth century walls. It is a jewel
of medieval and renaissance architecture with beautiful
piazzas, churches, palaces and museums. Other places
in the province worth a visit include Viareggio which
is a beautiful seaside town. It has miles of clean beaches.
It also has many shops and restaurants. The Carnival
at Viareggio attracts many tourists from far and wide.
The Massacuicolli Lake contains a pristine ecosystem
with rare fishes and fauna and migratory birds and is
in the province of Lucca. It is also the place where
the famous composer Puccini had his home and composed
his masterpieces on the Torre del Lago.
