Pisa
The province of Pisa belongs to the Tuscany region
in Italy. There are thirty-nine communes in the province.
The capital city is called Pisa. The leaning tower of
Pisa is perhaps one of the best-recognized Italian monuments
as it was from here that Galileo Galilee proved that
the earth was not flat but round. Its proximity to the
Mediterranean Sea has made it a wealthy and commercial
province. Its relationship with the Tuscan region has
made it a renowned center for its wines and truffles.
The climate is mainly Mediterranean; it is alpine in
the far north and hot and dry in the south. The terrain
is mostly rugged and mountainous. There are a few plains
and coastal lowlands.
As with the general layout of the Tuscan region there
are many medieval towns, ancient churches and vineyards
and olive groves.
