San Miniato
San Miniato is a town with a subtle blend of its Etruscan
and roman past with the modern living. It has a vibrant
theatre and culture scene and yet is renowned for its
beautiful countryside. There are many monuments and
buildings worth a visit. They include the tower of Frederick,
the Duomo (Cathedral), the Diocesan Museum, the Palazzo
dei Vicari, the Palazzo Communale (Town Hall), the church
of San Francesco, the church of San Domenico and the
Convent of San Francesco and other baroque and renaissance
buildings. San Miniato is also known as the land of
the White Truffle. This fragrant fungus is a highly
valued delicacy and merits it own truffle festival.
It is also famous for its wines, olive oil and artichokes.
