Siena
The province of Siena can be divided into seven major
areas with the capital city "Siena" lying
almost at the middle of the province. Each area is unique
by itself. It is a hilly province and Chianti wines
are produced here. The major activity is agricultural
based with wheat, grapes and fruit being cultivated
at a large scale. There is also a flourishing silk industry.
Historically the province of Siena was formerly the
Republic of Siena. The capital city of the province
is called Siena and has been declared as a World Heritage
Site by UNESCO. The economy of the province is mainly
based on tourism, agriculture and services although
there are a few medium and small-scale industries. Montaione
is a very picturesque town with its origins dating to
Etruscan and Roman settlements. The ancient church of
San Bagio is very near the town.
