Monteaperti
Monteaperti is a town situated on top of the Monteapertaccio
Hill. It overlooks the Val del' Arbia. It owes its fame
to the famous battle between Florence and Siena on September
4, 1260. It was a hard and cruel battle, which gave
the Florentines a decisive victory. There is a memorial
stone commemorating the bloody battle in which so many
lives were lost. The castle Castello della Quattro Torri
is close by. This castle was built during the fourteenth
and fifteenth century. It is built in the shape of a
four- leaved plant with four towers. It has a beautiful
courtyard. Dante has mentioned this town in his Divine
Comedy.
