Pienza
Pienza is a small town near Siena in the centre of
Val D’Orcia a beautiful valley in Tuscany. Pope
Pius II redesigned the centre of the town to make it
a model renaissance town. With the help of the architect
Bernardo Rossellino the Pope transformed his birthplace
into an ideal city reflecting perfect renaissance town
planning. Some of the famous monuments worth visiting
include the Palazzo Piccoiomini, the Palazzo Borgia,
the Duomo (Cathedral), the Palazzo Pubblico, the church
of San Francesco, the Ammannati Palace, the Gonzaga
Palace and the Palazzo del Cardinale Atrebatense. The
Pieve of Corsignano close by is also worth a visit.
In 1994 the UNESCO designated the town as a World Heritage
