Radda in Chianti
Radda in Chianti lies high among the hills of Chianti
close to the deep valleys of the Pesa and Arbia rivers.
Radda is covered with woods and beautiful vineyards.
In 1003 the Fiorentina Abbey owned its Castle and territory.
In 1220 it became the feudal possession of the Guidi
Counts. Florence took possession of the town in the
1300's and reinforced the castle walls and added new
fortifications. Its medieval structure is intact with
the town growing elliptically around the church of San
Nicolo and the Palazzo Podesta. Since Radda lies in
the Chianti Classico region viniculture and olive oil
production are major industries. However recent trends
show the rise of small industries in construction, ceramic,
terra cotta and furniture sector.
