Come on in and toast the spirit of Florence's famous wine and warm the cockles of your heart with traditional dishes at the Antica Mescita S. Niccolo. Originally a tax station for Chianti wine in the San Niccolo area, it was converted in the 19th century to a grocery store and a wine shop. After the flood of 1966, the crypt built in 1000 A.D. of the San Niccolo Church was discovered near by. It was restored in 1970 and was transformed into a wine shop with a kitchen. In 1993, the Prosperi family took over and restored the lovely old décor back to its originality giving the semblance of an ancient Florentine tavern which you will find on Via S. Niccolo, 63/r.
