Time to Relax in Tuscany
|
Benvenuto!
The early months of the year are just wonderful in Tuscany, Italy. There is a relaxed atmosphere in the year, social events revolve around fine dining and long conversations over a nice bottle of Chianti.
Crisp cold air swirls around her beautiful countryside, Tuscany romances you with her warmth and offers you all that you need to warm the core of your being.
The glittering oft-times snow tapped hills that line the countryside cradle ancient villas. The Arno river, which bisects Florence, is calm and calming, the early morning fog adding a mystique and serenity to the muted views of the rolling Tuscan hills.
What the postcard views do not reveal however, are the hidden streams and pools ensconced in natural caves, famous amongst the locals for giving the elixir of life to bond mind and body. Taking you through the startling, sparkling winter whiteness, Tuscany leads you to the secret of holistic health and healing to experience a sizzling adventure at her famous thermal baths.

| If you like to cook or just love food , we support a cooking class close to Florence due to the great quality, friendliness of the chefs and the incredible response we have had from the people who have attended the classes.
The cooking class is called “Good Tastes of Tuscany “ and the classes are held in the magnificent kitchen of a 14th century castle . The classes involve hands on fresh pasta making , the tricks to the tuscan cooking techniques and a vast menu even for the basic classes from antipasto to desert.
You'll cook together with the Chef and you'll eat what you prepared all together following the class. A full meal is served so you can relax and savour your efforts making new friends , having a laugh over a glass of wine and experiencing the tuscan lifestyle of times gone by.
The classes are run by 2 italian english speaking chefs.
One of the chefs learnt by the most important teachers ; her family. The traditional Italian housewife that takes care of the house was the center of everything in a home and also for entertaining. The chef was taught by her grandmother and mother the skill of true Tuscan cooking and later through many courses and a catering business.
The other chef began as a restaurant owner in Florence and then expanded his knowledge through the most noted italian courses for professionals . They also have a indepth knowledge on the history of Tuscan cuisine, the variety of dishes from each area and seasons.
They are both warm, passionate and friendly people and very eager to please , when I have commented to them about the satisfaction of the attendees they responed “ we just love people and what we do so much that this obviously transmits to the clients”.

| Bagni Vignoni |
|
Spend a scintillating time in a holiday hot spot just south pf San Quirico at the famous Bagni Vignoni. Renowned since the time of the Romans, this unusual rejuvenating Spa evolves over a verdant hill above Val d’Orcia. Deriving its name from an ancient 11th century castle that looms as a silent sentinel over the village, Bagni Vignoni has magnificent architecture with an enchanting enclosed bridge built over its thermal waters. The waters are rotated from the natural bath to the thermal houses that are structured in the village and passed through water mills on the banks of the river.
Popular as a holiday hotspot, the ancient Bagni Vignoni has been visited through the centuries by nobility, clergy and tourists from all the corners of Europe. The healing waters of this wonderful Spa have also been visited by Lorenzo the Magnificent in 1490. Pope Pius and other renowned religious heads including pilgrims have been here to refresh and rejuvenate themselves at this therapeutic thermal baths. Known for its healing properties to both mind and body, Catherine of Siena was brought to this magical thermal baths by her mother, in the hope of preventing her from joining the monastery for nuns! Many accolades have been attributed to these curative waters at Bagni Vignoni including a tribute found in the diary of Michel de Montaigne as far back as 1581. Inspiring writers and poets, Bagni Vignoni has been celebrated through the years with verses written by Lattanzio Tolomei in the 16th century on the water nymphs which have been engraved on a marble tablet. These nymphs have been sculpted on a pillar of a small chapel. This quaint little church was built by the Amerighi family in the center of the porch overlooking the thermal waters and was dedicated to St. Catherine.
Even as far back as the early times, when the women and men used separate baths, the Commune of Siena has managed and controlled the usage of the thermal curative waters. The Amerighi family took up the onus of maintaining the thermal baths after the Grand Duke granted the family the tax rights to the baths. With the Bill being introduced in 1592 and formally passed in 1599, the Amerighi family undertook the maintenance of the baths. In 1677, the Grand Duke Cosimo III handed over St. Quirico d’Orcia which included Bagni Vignoni to Cardinal Flavio Chigi whose family still owns part of the thermal bath.
Attractions of Bagni Vignoni
A 20-minute drive from Pienza takes you to Bagni Vignoni with Montalcino and Montepulciano taking a while longer to reach. A spectrum of historical architecture in and around Bagni Vignoni and its thermal baths attracts both tourists and the locals to its hallowed midst. La Cinta Muraria, the old town wall with 14 towers and a vestige of the base of its outer gate can be seen today. La Collegiata was the site of an 8th century church on Via Dante Alighieri. The Palazzo Chigi is next to La Collegiata on Via Dante Alighieri built in the late 17th century by Cardinal Flavio Chigi. Destroyed during the bombings of World War II, the palazzo has not been restored and is owned by the Town Council. As one of the dominating structures in the main square of the town, the Chiesa di San Francesco or the Church of St. Francis has been re-restored many times. The church showcases an awesome sculpture of the Madonna on the altar by Andrea della Robbia. Piazza Liberta displays the lovely garden of Horti Leonini designed by Diomede Leoni in 1580. The lower part of the piazza has a grand statue of Cosimo de’ Medic III that was commissioned by Cardinal Flavio Chigi in 1688. Evolving across the beautiful Tuscan countryside close to Bagni Vignoni, San Quirico was first mentioned in the year 712. As the diocese of Arezzo and Sienna had battled over the ownership of this quaint yet gorgeous place, King Liutprando handed it over to Arezzo. As San Quirico was occupied by the Etruscans, the archaeological findings were housed at the Etruscan Archaeological Museum in Sienna. Later in 1180, it was transformed into the seat of the Imperial Vicar under the rule of the Siennese. In 1205, the congress of the League of Tuscany or Lega di Toscana was held in this place. After the fall of the Siennese Republic, San Quirico was handed over to Cardinal Flavio Chigi by Cosimo de’ Medici after the rule of the Marchese of Marignano.
