We had a lovely time at Farmhouse Caterina - The house was comfortable and well appointed. Unfortunately it rained and was cold most of the time we were there so didn't use the pool. I liked the location very much - it was central to much of Tuscany, and off the beaten track enough to make us feel as thought we really were a native.
My advice to a first time traveler would be Relax - don't be too serious, bring a washcloth, only get cash from an ATM, and try to speak a little of the language.
Consider every day as a new adventure and seek out new experiences. One of our favorite experiences was when we turned down a winding road off the autostrata and ended up at the beach. We found a restaurant and learned it was open - we wanted a small snack (it was about 11:00 am). Their kitchen wasn't open yet so we said coffee would be fine. They then brought out a feast from the "unopened" kitchen. Bread, Proscuitto, cheese, sardenes fruit, grilled vegetables, I can't even remember all we ate. We laughed and laughed with the restaurant owners.
